Greasy Heel
“As each year went by the bouts of greasy heel became more aggressive”
I have owned my eight year old Arabian Warmblood gelding now for six years. Throughout the years we have battled bouts of ‘greasy heel’ with minimal success. Traditional treatments of Prednaderm, washing, bandaging, clipping, wearing paddock boots were all utilised with varying degrees of success. I even moved the horse to another property where he could be stabled to keep him out of long, wet grass and poor weather. As each year went by the bouts of greasy heel became more aggressive and despite vigilance and care, harder to remove.
In March 2004, a friend asked if I had read Horse Deals because there was an advertisement for a homoeopathy treatment that had photographs of a horse suffering from greasy heel. When I finally saw the advertisement I was shocked - it very well could have been my horse! I started the treatment of drops in his feed and a cream application to soften the scabs. I was more than a little sceptical at first; I couldn’t see how this was going to make a difference. After three weeks the scabs started falling away and lovely, healthy, pink skin could be seen! the horse has been clear of greasy heel now for the longest period of time. It has truly been amazing. I now have my horse back!
